This past week was my big girl's birthday. She turned four years old...and boy, does she live up to the age. She has enough tantrums on a daily basis to make it seem like she's getting younger. And at the same time, she holds herself most of the time in such a mature and big girl manner that it's pretty surprising. As a birthday present, my husband and I took her to get her ears pierced. Actually, I went with my aunt and together we were more scared I think than she was. She was such a trooper and I was so proud of her! It was so amusing to think how it was such a big deal leading up to the ear piercing and so much weighing and measuring in my mind about whether or not she was the right age or if it was worth it. And in the end, it was over in about 5 minutes! But I do in fact know that it was worth it. She looks and feels so much more girly and grown up and on top of it, she herself chose to get her ears pierced over toys. When I asked her if she wanted to go to the toy store or get her ears pierced, there wasn't even a delayed response, just an immediate, "I want to get my ears pierced!" Talk about knowing what you want. It's so wonderful to see how a small person of her age can be so sure and confident about what she wants and likes. So much more so than many adults I know, including myself. What an inspiration!
